Cross-site Scripting occurrences in Ebx
The Web Server component of TIBCO Software Inc.'s TIBCO EBX contains an easily exploitable vulnerability that allows a low privileged attacker with network access to execute Stored Cross Site Scripting (XSS) on the affected system. A successful attack using this vulnerability requires human interaction from a person other than the attacker. Affected releases are TIBCO Software Inc.'s TIBCO EBX: versions 6.0.0 through 6.0.8. (2022-09-21, CVE-2022-30577)
The Web server component of TIBCO Software Inc.'s TIBCO EBX, TIBCO EBX, TIBCO EBX, TIBCO EBX Add-ons, TIBCO EBX Add-ons, TIBCO EBX Add-ons, and TIBCO Product and Service Catalog powered by TIBCO EBX contains an easily exploitable vulnerability that allows a low privileged attacker with network access to execute Stored Cross Site Scripting (XSS) on the affected system. A successful attack using this vulnerability requires human interaction from a person other than the attacker. (2022-01-19, CVE-2022-22769)
The TIBCO EBX Web Server component of TIBCO Software Inc.'s TIBCO EBX contains a vulnerability that theoretically allows a low privileged attacker with network access to execute a Stored Cross Site Scripting (XSS) attack on the affected system. Affected releases are TIBCO Software Inc.'s TIBCO EBX: versions 5.9.12 and below. (2021-02-02, CVE-2021-23271)
The Web server component of TIBCO Software Inc.'s TIBCO EBX contains a vulnerability that theoretically allows authenticated users to perform stored cross-site scripting (XSS) attacks. Affected releases are TIBCO Software Inc.'s TIBCO EBX: versions 5.8.1.fixS and below, versions 5.9.3, 5.9.4, 5.9.5, 5.9.6, and 5.9.7. (2020-02-19, CVE-2019-17333)
The Web server component of TIBCO Software Inc.'s TIBCO EBX contains multiple vulnerabilities that theoretically allow authenticated users to perform stored cross-site scripting (XSS) attacks, and unauthenticated users to perform reflected cross-site scripting attacks. Affected releases are TIBCO Software Inc.'s TIBCO EBX: versions up to and including 5.8.1.fixR, versions 5.9.3, 5.9.4, 5.9.5, and 5.9.6. (2019-11-12, CVE-2019-17330)
Why Cross-site Scripting can be dangerous
Cross site scripting is an attack where a web page executes code that is injected by an adversary. It usually appears, when users input is presented. This attack can be used to impersonate a user, take over control of the session, or even steal API keys.
The attack can be executed e.g. when you application injects the request parameter directly into the HTML code of the page returned to the user:
https://server.com/confirmation?message=Transaction+Complete
what results in:
<span>Confirmation: Transaction Complete</span>
In that case the message can be modified to become a valid Javascript code, e.g.:
https://server.com/confirmation?message=<script>dangerous javascript code here</script>
and it will be executed locally by the user's browser with full access to the user's personal application/browser data:
<span>Confirmation: <script>dangerous javascript code here</script></span>
