Path Traversal occurrences in Navigate Cms

An arbitrary file read vulnerability exists in NavigateCMS 2.9 via /navigate/navigate_download.php id parameter. (2022-01-06, CVE-2021-44351)

An issue was discovered in Navigate CMS through 2.8.7. It allows Directory Traversal because lib/packages/templates/template.class.php mishandles ../ and ..\ substrings. (2020-06-03, CVE-2020-13795)

An "Unrestricted Upload of File with Dangerous Type" issue with directory traversal in navigate_upload.php in Naviwebs Navigate CMS 2.8 allows authenticated attackers to achieve remote code execution via a POST request with engine=picnik and id=../../../navigate_info.php. (2018-10-03, CVE-2018-17553)

Why Path Traversal can be dangerous

Relative Path Confusion means that your web server is configured to serve responses to ambiguous URLs. This configuration can possibly cause confusion about the correct relative path for the URL. It is also an issue of resources, such as images, styles etc., which are specified in the response using relative path, not the absolute URL.

If the web browser permits to parse "cross-content" response, the attacker may be able to fool the web browser into interpreting HTML into other content types, which can then lead to a cross site scripting attack (link do XSS).
