Netweaver Development Infrastructure Cross-site Scripting

Due to insufficient input validation, SAP NetWeaver Development Infrastructure (Design Time Repository) - versions 7.30, 7.31, 7.40, 7.50, allows an unauthenticated attacker to inject script into the URL and execute code in the user’s browser. On successful exploitation, an attacker can view or modify information causing a limited impact on confidentiality and integrity of the application. (2022-06-14, CVE-2022-29618)

NWDI Notification Service versions - 7.31, 7.40, 7.50, does not sufficiently encode user-controlled inputs, resulting in Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) vulnerability.SAP NetWeaver Development Infrastructure Notification Service allows a threat actor to send crafted scripts to a victim. If the victim has an active session when the crafted script gets executed, the threat actor could compromise information in victims session, and gain access to some sensitive information also. (2021-09-15, CVE-2021-33691)

Cross site scripting is an attack where a web page executes code that is injected by an adversary. It usually appears, when users input is presented. This attack can be used to impersonate a user, take over control of the session, or even steal API keys.

The attack can be executed e.g. when you application injects the request parameter directly into the HTML code of the page returned to the user:

what results in:

In that case the message can be modified to become a valid Javascript code, e.g.:

https://server.com/confirmation?message=<script>dangerous javascript code here</script>

and it will be executed locally by the user's browser with full access to the user's personal application/browser data:
